Monday: Plans Awry – Women of Faith

Well, “the best laid plans of mice, and men, often go awry.” But the Lord knows and directs my path.

I had planned to post here today about the beauty and strength of Sarah, Abraham’s obedient wife. I’m in the middle of untangling my thoughts about her and how she has impacted me to be beautiful and trust in the Lord in all things. But the thoughts are still tangled. If you’d like to comment on what you see about Sarah’s life, here are the references from which I am drawing:

Genesis 11-23 especially 11:29-31, 12, 17:15-22, 18, 20, 21, and 23

Hebrews 11:11

1 Peter 3:1-7

I’ll post more as soon as my thoughts are more neatly arranged. Right now they’re just a pile of spaghetti.

Update On 2020 So Far

HELLO!! And look! The crocuses and daffodils are blooming!

Spring is just around the corner and I’m so excited to be getting back into the habit of posting on this blog.

I took a break to focus on other projects, and now I’m ready to go at it again.

To start with, I’m posting this overview of some things I have been up to in the past 2 months and what my updated hopes are for the next 10 months:

In the past 2 months I’ve been helping a friend get ready to publish her book, working through 2 Bible Studies with friends, went on a sweet little vacation with Mr. Amazing, cleaned up an actual ring of poo in the basement with my darling (he’s so sweet and really did most of it), read a few books, and we’re working through unpacking (yes, from moving in 3.5 years ago), and reorganizing our basement. Those are the big things that come to mind that have been filling my time. I’ve also been writing a book about a friend. She and I are working on that and it’s going to be one of my primary focuses this year. I’m collecting and arranging stories from the first 30 years of her life.

Lately, Mr. Amazing has been practicing a new habit where instead of saying “I want to…” or “I hope to…”, you say “I intend to…”. So I’ve been trying that out in a group I’m part of on Facebook, I’ve learned that it helps me with my goals to “state my intentions” clearly. So for my own exercise and for the benefit of anyone who wants to know my most updated intentions for the year 2020 are approximately as follows:

Over the next 10 months, I intend to post on this blog every Monday, write with “The Writer’s Block” as often as possible, finish my friend’s biography, remodel our 59-year-old kitchen, continue toward being able to run and exercise again. Teach my kids and play with them and go outside everyday. Start “Thankful Thursday”!

For posting on this blog, I’ve made myself a dedicated calendar with subject ideas so that I can work ahead and study my subject. In March, I intend to share about how the lives of 5 different women of the faith have impacted my life. I’m really looking forward to sharing about them!

My word for this year is “Thanksgiving” and the scripture that goes with it is Philippians 4:5-7 “Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I am intrigued by how the Lord is already using “thanksgiving” as a continuation of things our family learned in the fall about tangible ways to show our thankfulness and habits around expressing thankfulness. One of the Bible studies I’m doing (with a friend who is close to my heart but far from my geography) is in Philippians and our small group at church is also studying Philippians together right now. Perhaps this will be the year that I finally blog through Philippians as well. I’ve worked part way through it once before.

I’m looking forward to learning lots this year, to getting things done and to sharing with you here! Lord willing!
